Thyroid

The thyroid is the largest endocrine gland.  It controls hormones and how quickly the body uses energy.    For a detailed explanation visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroid. The thyroid has been refered to in energy medicine as the means by which the human soul awakens within the body.

Physical symptoms of someone with an under active thyroid (hypothyroidism) include:

- low energy
- sensitivity to cold
- weight gain

Physical symptoms of someone with an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) include:

- weight loss
- accelerated heart rate
- anxiety
- hair loss
- inability to concentrate
- weakness and muscle aches
- sensitivity to heat
- bulging eyes

Although the thyroid is linked to the throat chakra. What can I do to help the thyroid function correctly?

- Breath.  Since the thyroid is the bridge through which the breath passes, deep breathing exercises can help regulate this gland.  Breathing in and out with full breaths through the nose is helpful.  Often people with thyroid problems have shallow breathing.

- Wear the color blue. Blue is the color of the throat chakra.

- Exercise.  Regular exercise has been linked to a healthy thyroid.
