The Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is the first chakra that is on a spiritual plane.  This Chakra has to do with music, vibration, communication and expression.  When the Throat Chakra is balanced we are able to communicate clearly and express our feelings without being overbearing.

When this chakra is weak, a person may be afraid to express their feelings or voice their opinion.  Often people with weak throat chakras are discribed as shy or soft spoken.  On the other hand, people with over active throat chakras tend to gossip, are critical and have difficulty listening to the opinions of others.

Physically, people with throat chakra imbalances have issues with their teeth and jaw, such as tmj.  Sore throats, strep throat, thyroid problems and stiff necks can also be side-effects of an imbalanced throat chakra.

Suggestions for balancing the throat chakra:

Participate in a yoga series that includes vibrational excercises, such as saying "hum" on the exhale of poses.  This is the vibrational sound of the throat chakra.

Work the reflexology points associated with the throat, such as the thyroid points, the jaw, and ring muscles and teeth.

Diffuse lavender, the oil of communication.  Melissa is also a great oil to diffuse for those who are having difficulty expressing their emotions.

Practice expressing your emotions.  Pick someone who you are very thankful for and express to them why you are glad they are in your life.

Wear blue, the color of the throat chakra.
